KATACARA, JAKARTA, – Sejak dulu, masyarakat Indonesia dikenal ramah dan santun. Namun tak begitu di dunia maya. Survei Digital Civility Index (DCI) yang dilakukan Microsoft pada tahun lalu, menempatkan warganet Indonesia sebagai negara dengan kesopanan digital terburuk di Asia Tenggara.

Hoax dan penipuan menjadi dua faktor tertinggi yang mempengaruhi rendahnya ranking Indonesia, dengan persentase 47 persen. Sementara itu, riset dari Crimson Hexagon menunjukkan setidaknya ada 70 ribu unggahan kemarahan dan ujaran kebencian dituliskan oleh warganet Indonesia di berbagai media sosial setiap harinya.

Hal ini ditengarai karena lemahnya literasi digital masyarakat indonesia. Survei yang dilakukan Katadata Insight Center (KIC) bersama Kementerian Komunikasi dan Informatika (Kominfo) membeberkan bahwa 11,2 persen warganet Indonesia yang disurvei menyatakan pernah menyebarkan hoax. Sementara itu 68,4 persen responden mengaku pernah menyebarkan informasi tanpa memverifikasi kebenarannya.

Sebagai institusi pendidikan yang memiliki tanggung jawab sosial kepada masyarakat, Universitas Pertamina (UP) ikut andil dalam membentuk masyarakat yang melek digital. Para dosen program studi Komunikasi UP misalnya, melakukan program Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PkM) bertema sosialisasi literasi media digital kepada berbagai kelompok usia.

“Tim dosen dan mahasiswa melakukan kampanye di sejumlah sekolah, mulai dari sekolah dasar hingga menengah seperti SDN 11 Kebayoran, SMAN 29 Jakarta, dan berbagai sekolah lainnya. PkM ini bertujuan meningkatkan kesadaran, pengetahuan dan keterampilan para siswa dalam menggunakan media digital. Kampanye dilakukan dalam bentuk sosialisasi, penayangan video animasi, permainan interaktif, dan wawancara,” ungkap Ketua tim, Ita Musfirowati Hanika, dalam wawancara daring, Jumat (02/07).

Dampaknya, pengetahuan siswa terhadap penggunaan gawai yang bijak meningkat dari angka 20 persen menjadi 70 persen. Sementara itu, pemahaman siswa akan bahaya penggunaan gawai yang berlebihan juga bertambah dari 55 persen menjadi 85 persen.

Program yang telah berjalan sejak Juli 2018 ini, juga ditunjang dengan publikasi penelitian para dosen dan mahasiswa terkait literasi media digital di berbagai jurnal ternama. Salah satunya, penelitian bertajuk ‘Sosialisasi Literasi Media Digital di Jakarta’, yang mendapatkan hibah penelitian dari Direktorat Jenderal Pendidikan Tinggi (Ditjen Dikti).

Di Universitas Pertamina, budaya literasi digital dibangun melalui kehadiran mata kuliah Literasi Media dan Digital. “Mata kuliah ini diharapkan membantu mahasiswa dalam menganalisa, mengevaluasi dan mengkomunikasikan isi pesan di media tertentu. Selain mendidik para mahasiswa untuk menggunakan media digital dengan bijak, kami juga melatih mereka untuk menjadi penyuluh bagi lingkungan dan masyarakat dengan turut serta melibatkan mereka dalam kegiatan penelitian dan PkM,” jelas Budi W. Soetjipto, Ph.D., Wakil Rektor Bidang Akademik dan Kemahasiswaan Universitas Pertamina.

Fira Zahira Mahasiswa Program Studi Komunikasi Universitas Pertamina Angkatan 2017 mengungkap mata kuliah ini mengajarkannya untuk senantiasa memverifikasi kebenaran dari sebuah informasi. “Saya termasuk warganet yang mengikuti perkembangan isu di platform digital. Dengan belajar Literasi Media dan Digital, saya jadi lebih kritis terhadap setiap informasi yang saya baca. Sekarang saya dapat dengan cakap memilah informasi yang berpotensi mengandung hoax,” ujara Fira.
