Benteng Somba Opu Saksi Bisu Sejarah yang Ditelantarkan

KATACARA, MAKASSAR– Bangsa Indonesia lahir dari perjuangan patriot dimana hingga saat ini bukti dari perjuangan dan perlawanan para terdahulu bangsa masih dapat disaksikan melalui peninggalannya yang masih terus dipertahankan.

Salah satu bukti sejarah atau saksi bisu bisa jadi berupa sebuah benteng seperti Benteng Somba Opu. Benteng ini merupakan peninggalan Kerajaan Gowa yang berada di Makassar.

Selain sebagai saksi bisu sejarah, benteng ini sekarang menjadi lokasi wisata edukasi bagi siapapun yang datang dan mengetahui secara langsung bagaimana bentuk benteng.

Selama ini masyarakat mungkin sering mendengar benteng Fort Rotterdam. Tetapi Benteng Somba opu ini juga tak kalah cantik terlebih letaknya tak jauh dari Kota Makassar.

Tercatat dalam sejarah, dulu benteng Somba Opu ini dibangun oleh Daeng Karaeng Tumapakrisi di abad ke 16. Kemudian dilanjutkan oleh Daeng Tunipallangga Ulaweng memiliki luas sekitar 113.590 meter persegi.

Benteng ini juga pernah diperkuat menggunakan batu padas. Ada meriam-meriam berat salah satunya juga masih ada di benteng ini.

Sebuah meriam dengan panjang sekitar 9 meter dan tidak hanya jadi pusat pertahanan.

Dulunya, selain sebagai tempat pertahanan, benteng ini juga menjadi pusat perdagangan rempah-rempah serta menjadi pelabuhan.

Apalagi banyak para pedagang baik itu dari daerah seperti Bugis-Makassar, Asia, Melayu bahkan Eropa yang melakukan perdagangan di tempat ini.

Di dalam kawasan Benteng Somba Opu, terdapat banyak cagar budaya berupa rumah-rumah adat berbagai suku di Sulawesi Selatan dan Sulawesi Barat.

Terdapat pula museum digunakan menyimpan benda-benda bersejarah, termasuk meriam besar yang memiliki panjang sekitar 9 meter.

Setiap hari, Benteng Somba Opu ramai dikunjung pelancong maupun ratusan mahasiswa melakukan berbagai kegiatan organisasi kemahasiswaan.

Para mahasiswa ini pun melakukan berbagai kegiatan kemahasiswaan di rumah-rumah adat dan bahkan sampai menginap beberapa hari.

Benteng Somba Opu merupakan wajah mengenal kembali sejarah yang ada. Tetapi, penghargaan terhadap saksi sejarah ini terkesan terabaikan yang terkikis oleh perkembangan zaman.

Situs yang penting seperti ini tampak kurang mendapat perhatian. Keadaannya sebagai bukti sejarah ditinggalkan seiring waktu, tak terurus dengan pagar kayu yang mulai lapuk, sampah dimana-mana sehingga terkesan ditinggalkan begitu saja.

Meski masih ada satu hingga dua kegiatan dilakukan tetapi tetap saja tidak ada sentuhan perawatan yang cukup maksimal. Beberapa tempat juga dibiarkan tanpa ada pemeliharaan.

Ada juga yang dijadikan sebagai tempat jualan. banyak bangunan tampak sangat lapuk dan rapuh, banyak pulang bangunan liar yang menambah kerancuan cagar budaya ini.

Penelantaran benda cagar budaya ini sepertinya tidak berlebihan jika dianggap sama saja dengan menelantarkan masa lalu, masa kegemilangan, dan masa keemasan sebagai suku bangsa yang besar.
