KATACARA, JAKARTA – Gim komputer seringkali mendapat cap negatif. Dari tuduhan menimbulkan adiksi, mengurangi aktivitas fisik, hingga mendorong timbulnya perilaku agresi. Pelaku penembakan massal pada Agustus 2019 di Wallmart Texas, AS, mengindikasikan ia bermain gim bertema kekerasan.

Riset oleh Wouters dan van Oostendorp, menyimpulkan bahwa gim akademik terbukti lebih efektif ketimbang media pembelajaran konvensional.

“Gamifikasi pendidikan, juga diterapkan di Universitas Pertamina. Kami mendorong mahasiswa untuk berpikir kritis dan inovatif melalui mata kuliah Critical Thinking dan Creative Problem Solving. Sehingga diharapkan mereka dapat menghasilkan terobosan inovasi,” kata Wakil Rektor Bidang Akademik dan Kemahasiswaan Universitas Pertamina, Budi W. Soetjipto, Ph.D., dalam wawancara daring, Jumat (18/06).

Salah satunya, gim pendidikan kreasi Revyra Phoebe, mahasiswi Program Studi Ilmu Komputer Universitas Pertamina. Ia mencipta gim komputer bernama TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) Adventure untuk meningkatkan kemampuan Bahasa Inggris mahasiswa.

“Dari survey kecil yang saya lakukan, setidaknya ada 30 persen mahasiswa yang mengaku nilai TOEFL-nya belum memenuhi target. Gim ini melatih kemampuan listening comprehension, structure and written expression, dan reading comprehension,” jelas Revyra.

Agar lebih seru dan kompetitif, lanjut Revyra, ia juga menyematkan fitur ranking dan aksesoris yang dapat dibeli dengan menggunakan koin. Koin ini terkumpul dari skor selama permainan. Tak hanya dalam bentuk battle, dalam section lesson pengguna juga dapat mempelajari penggunaan preposition, article, dan tenses.

Gim TOEFL Adventure buatannya, kini ia sumbangkan ke Laboratorium Bahasa Universitas Pertamina untuk digunakan sebagai sarana pembelajaran.

“Kami membiasakan mahasiswa mengerjakan proyek penelitian bersama dosen. Sehingga mereka mendapat pendalaman pembelajaran berbasis riset, terhadap permasalahan nyata yang terjadi di sekitarnya. Dengan harapan dapat menghasilkan lulusan yang lebih siap kerja,” pungkas Budi.

Bagi siswa siswi SMA yang ingin berkuliah di kampus besutan PT Pertamina (Persero) tersebut, saat ini tengah dibuka Seleksi Nilai Rapor, Ujian Masuk Online, dan Seleksi Nilai UTBK untuk Tahun Akademik 2021/2022.
