KACARANEWS.COM – Menurut Badan Koordinasi Keluarga Berencana Nasional (BKKBN), bangsa Indonesia akan mengalami bonus demografi pada rentang 2020 s.d. 2030, yaitu ketika jumlah usia produktif 2 per 3 dari jumlah penduduk keseluruhan. Bonus demografi ini dapat menjadi peluang sekaligus tantangan bagi kemajuan bangsa, berkah atau justru menjadi bencana.

Dalam menghadapi era bonus demografi yang bersamaan dengan era revolusi industri 4.0, kemajuan bangsa sangat tergantung pada kualitas sumber daya manusia yang dimiliki. Berbicara mengenai kualitas sumber daya manusia tentu tidak terlepas dari pendidikan. Lantas strategi khusus apa yang diperlukan dengan situasi saat ini?

Pengembangan guru menjadi hal yang sangat utama perlu dilakukan. Abdul Malik Fajar, Menteri Pendidikan 2001-2004, berpandangan bahwa guru merupakan cermin pendidikan dan keberadaan pendidikan itu tercermin pada pendidik. Apabila guru dapat memberikan impact yang luar biasa, maka siswa dan lingkungan akan menjadi luar biasa pula. Diibaratkan guru adalah center of change agent. Tak jarang terjadi siswa menyukai pelajaran tertentu, belum tentu karena bukunya, melainkan karena guru yang menyampaikan pelajaran tersebut.

Secara etimologis, kata Guru (Bahasa Sansekerta) berasal dari Gu artinya kegelapan dan Ru artinya membebaskan dari atau menyingkirkan. Dengan demikian, tidak salah metafora dalam lirik lagu hymne guru yang biasa kita nyanyikan ketika acara pelepasan sekolah berbunyi, “Engkau sebagai pelita dalam kegelapan. Engkau laksana embun penyejuk dalam kehausan.”

Di satu sisi, data Kementerian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan menunjukkan bahwa hasil uji kompetensi guru pada tahun 2017 memberikan informasi capaian yang masih jauh dari standar kompetensi guru yang dipatok oleh pemeritah. Capaian rerata paling tinggi diraih oleh guru SMA yang mencapai 69,55 dan rata-rata paling rendah diraih oleh guru SD yang mencapai 62,22.

Terkait standar kualitas guru, dengan skema ikatan dinas/kerja, institut pencetak para guru diprediksi menghasilkan lulusan guru yang mendekati sama kualitasnya. Dengan demikian, ketika lulusan calon guru ini ditempatkan di seluruh daerah Indonesia, diharapkan output siswa yang diajar juga tidak mengalami gap kualitas dengan siswa yang berasal dari daerah terpelosok atau terpencil. Kedepan pemerintah perlu mempertimbangkan skema pendidikan guru berikatan dinas untuk tingkatkan kualitas guru. Karena guru yang cerdas berkarakter, maka siswa nya akan cerdas berkarkter pula.(abt)
